Cardinal Overcome Slow Start to Secure Victory

In a thrilling Pac-12 showdown, No. 5 Stanford Women's Volleyball (11-1, 3-0 Pac-12) extended their winning streak to 11 matches with a hard-fought 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-21) victory over No. 18 Minnesota (9-3, 1-2 Pac-12) on Friday night at Maples Pavilion.

The Cardinal started slowly, dropping the first set, but rallied to win the next three sets and secure the victory.

Senior outside hitter Kathryn Plummer led the way for Stanford with 22 kills and 11 digs, while junior middle blocker Caitie Baird added 13 kills and 5 blocks. Senior libero Morgan Hentz recorded a match-high 22 digs.

For Minnesota, junior outside hitter Stephanie Samedy had a team-high 18 kills, while senior middle blocker Regan Pittman added 10 kills and 7 blocks.

Despite dropping the first set, Stanford controlled the tempo of the match for much of the night. The Cardinal hit .308 as a team, compared to .222 for Minnesota.

Stanford also had a significant advantage in serve-receive, as they allowed only two aces to Minnesota's six.

The win was Stanford's first over a ranked opponent this season.
