The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the mpox outbreak in Africa a public health emergency of international concern.
Global Concern
The WHO is concerned about the spread of mpox beyond Africa. Cases have been reported in Europe, the Americas, and Asia.
The WHO is urging countries to take steps to prevent and control the spread of mpox, including:
- Educating the public about mpox
- Surveillance for cases
- Contact tracing
- Vaccination

There are several things you can do to protect yourself from mpox:
- Avoid contact with people who are sick or who have a rash.
