WEB: CRTC expands ability for internet providers to sell service over telecoms networks

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) announced on Thursday that it is expanding the ability for internet providers to sell their services over the networks of large telephone companies. This move is expected to increase competition in the Canadian telecommunications market and give consumers more choice and lower prices.

Many of those providers urged the CRTC to level the playing field when it comes to internet competition

The CRTC's decision comes after years of lobbying from independent internet providers, who have argued that they are at a disadvantage compared to the large telephone companies that own their own fibre networks. The CRTC agreed with this argument, and said that the new rules will help to create a more level playing field.

The new rules will allow independent internet providers to sell their services over the fibre networks of Bell Canada, Rogers Communications, and Telus. This will give consumers more choice and lower prices, and is expected to increase competition in the Canadian telecommunications market.
