Mississippi State Fires Head Coach Zach Arnett

Mississippi State football is searching for a new head coach after firing Zach Arnett during his first season.

The Bulldogs are 4-6 this season, and Arnett's firing comes after a 24-22 loss to Arkansas on Saturday.

Arnett was promoted to the full-time head coach in December 2022 after serving as the interim coach for the final four games of the 2021 season. He had previously been the defensive coordinator at Mississippi State since 2018.

Mississippi State athletic director John Cohen said in a statement that the decision to fire Arnett was "not made lightly." He said that he met with Arnett on Monday and "determined that a change in leadership is necessary at this time."

The Bulldogs have not had a winning season since 2018, and they have not been to a bowl game since 2017. Arnett's firing is the latest in a series of coaching changes in the SEC this season. Auburn, Missouri, and South Carolina have all fired their head coaches this year.

Mississippi State is expected to begin a search for a new head coach immediately. The Bulldogs have several weeks before their bowl game, which will be announced on December 4.
